W Upcoming School Board Election Three School Board Members Recalled! You have probably seen these door hangers around town the last few weeks. Three candidates are running for open school board positions promising to bring a real change to our schools. WHY are the candidates running? Do we need to change the board? These are great questions. The Candidates, Mohr, Park, and Greiner want new schools, successful students, financial accountability, and a community that is unified and championing our greatest resource, our children. MPG for New Schools: We need new schools, but without a balanced budget and complete trust in our finances, how can we build a recession-proof long-range facilities plan and gain community support? Plan: Publish a vote for a bond with a balanced budget, after outstanding discrepancies have been cleared. MPG for Successful Students: Williston's students are behind the state and national average. In math, for example, we have a 12 - 20% proficiency rate, with no clear plan for change! Plan: Each grade level should have a clear plan for every area of I study, published to the parents and the community as soon as possible. MPG for Financial Accountability: The board spent $90,000 in 2023 on learning how to be a school board. This is equivalent to four full college scholarships in ND. Plan: Work with existing community members and leaders to mentor the board and work with teachers, other school districts and parents to learn where gaps exist and how we can get better. MPG for Leadership Plan: Support our team, our teachers, and our parents by listening, collaborating in good faith, and owning the challenges we face. MPG for Putting Kids First Plan: To put kids first we need to gain community trust, student success, financial accountability, and leadership.
