About

My name is Pat Irgens, and I am asking you to consider me as a write-in candidate for the Williston Park Board. I was born in Williston, ND, and I grew up on a farm 17 Miles NE of Williston, where I discovered my love for outdoors and recreation. I was educated in Ray and participated in numerous sports throughout my high school career. I earned a Social Science Education degree from NDSU, and I ran collegiate track, earning All-American honors. After graduation, I spent a few years teaching and coaching before eventually taking a job at Double EE Service, where I currently work as a manager. I am married to Tara (Retzer), and we have three children: Justin 12, Rylee 10, Hunter 6. As a manager at Double EE, I have been able to fine-tune many attributes that are necessary to be a member of the Park Board: leadership skills; understanding what it takes to make a business profitable (in good times and bad) and making the tough decisions, in a fair and just manner; recognizing quality employees and mentoring them so that they have the opportunity to grow as the business does; dealing with customers who have a different opinion and finding ways to find common ground; and ultimately, working through things for the greater good. My experiences at Double EE have taught me what it takes to be a leader and advocate for something I believe in. Besides my work experience, I have been involved with the Parks and Rec’s sports programs since my oldest son began attending when he was 5 years old. I’ve volunteered as a coach for many youth sports, both the “rec” programs and the “travel” teams offered. Over the years, I have constantly felt a desire to find ways to improve these programs, ensuring that ALL kids are benefitting from them. My decision to run for Park Board is rooted in the idea that we need to invite all of our stakeholders to the table to find a way to bring back the sense of pride in our sports programs from youth on up. I believe we can work together to find the perfect balance between FUN and LEARNING for all who participate, encouraging our young people to grow through teamwork and healthy competition. I hope you will consider writing my name in for the Williston Park Board. I strongly believe that my experience in the business world and my passion for sports and recreation will be the winning combination for OUR community!
